ARTIST'S NOTE OCTOBER 17th, 2007: “Many Faces” has earned 1st place in the American Kennel Club Eukanaba National Championship Commemorative Poster Contest. The original has been purchased by the American Kennel Club, and will remain in their collection. Reproductions will be available for purchase at the AKC/Eukanaba National Championship Dog Show in Long Beach, California. For those of you unable to attend the event, purchases can also be made through the AKC online store. I’ll publish details as availability approaches.

Proceeds from the poster sales promote Take the Lead, a non profit foundation dedicated to providing direct services, support and care for all qualified participants in the sport of dogs who suffer from life threatening or terminal illnesses. This part is very serendipitous to me, as the dog-a-day project has always focused on and supported animal welfare and advocacy. To see it come full circle, now, and benefit those at the other end of the leash, well, it’s a good feeling.

Such an apropos honor for the Painting a Dog a Day’s 1st year…..

“Many Faces,” 18” x 22”, acrylic painting overtop giclee print on gallery wrapped canvas. This piece was created specifically for a national poster contest.

I built the underlying collage first in Adobe using jpgs of some of my favorite dog-a-day images from the past year (hard to believe it’s been one year!). I then had the collage printed on canvas (essentially a giclee print), which I sealed with several coats of fixative. Then I went back in over almost the entirety of the surface, repainting areas, and adding details or gestural brushwork to each face. Finally, a slightly textured layer of varnish was applied to seal and protect the surface.

The original will be available for purchase pending the jurying of the competition. Additionally, this collage will be available as a poster – if not through this competition (keep your fingers crossed for me), then through my website. I’ll let you know in a few weeks what the status is. As always, inquiries may come to me at ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com .

Meanwhile, I am very pleased to announce the availability of note cards. I have two designs – the two most popular dog-a-day paintings – Jackpot, the square black lab face from September 28th, and Love Me, the silver tabby painting from September 12th.

Each design is available in packs of 10 5-1/2” x 4-1/4” cards with blank interiors. The cost is $12 plus shipping. I will offer a 10% discount on orders of 5 packs or more. Send inquiries and orders to ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com .

Also, I cleaned out the studio this weekend, and decided for the first time ever to mark down canvases that I’ve had around for a bit. There is nothing wrong with these paintings – they simply haven’t found the right forever home yet. All of them have been exhibited, some even winning awards. You can view them here: http://www.turtledovedesigns.com/studio_cleanup_sale.html . Please note, though, that they will only be available at these prices till the end of the year.

Thank you to new collector Darbye Stewert for her purchase of Kizzy’s portrait from the tail end of last week. When all the funds have come in, the dog-a-day project will have raised $1137 for animal welfare in just 6 months!! Thank you to everyone for keeping that number ever-growing.

Thanks, as always, for looking.
And for sharing these paintings with your friends and family!
See you tomorrow,
Kim

Tabby Kit

"Tabby Kit," 5" x 7", acrylics on a museum quality panel, depicting a tiny little orange striped guy from Morgue File . This painting can be yours for $289, which includes s&h inside the US. And in case you didn't see it, a little doodle of him is also available for sale here . Inquires may come directly to me .  Although it certainly doesn't FEEL like spring here (snow and ice and wind chills, brr!), I can tell that spring is coming. The mercury is rising a wee bit each day and the days are getting longer and brighter. Over the weekend we drove with the moonroof open just to feel the sun's meager and oh-so-very-welcome warmth (although the heat in the car was cranked, too, in the interest of full disclosure!). I wanted to work with spring-like colors today, and this little guy was still on my mind , so I grabbed a small panel and got to work. Of course, I also have Poppy to finish and some changes to make to another po
“Rapt (Shadow),” from the Larger than Life series, 16”x22”, acrylic black lab mixed breed pet portrait on gallery wrapped canvas, $699. Inquiries to ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com . SOLD. This is Shadow, who went missing on Sunday night. He belongs to a friend of mine, and has been a fixture in our community for many years. Errant fireworks scared the silly old guy into running off, and his family is busy searching for him. (If you happen to be in the Lake Orion/Oakland County area and have seen Shadow, please call 248-391-0867 or 248-391-6817) I’m confidant that he is safe (somewhere!) and awaiting discovery, but meanwhile, couldn’t help myself from posting his portrait as today’s dog a day painting . He’s constantly on my mind, and probably will remain so, until he finds his way back home. Hug your four legged guys while you can! Thanks, as always, for looking. And for sharing these paintings with friends and family, Kim Kimberly Kelly Santini http://www.turtledovedesigns.com/ dis

NEW! Etsy Store

One of my favorite unsold paintings from 2008, "Lashes & Corkscrews," 5" x 8", acrylic on canvasboard, depicting a tobiano buckskin curly horse, $289. Inquiries to ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com (but read further on how you can get a special deal on this painting!). Now it's ridiculously easy to browse my painting archives. All you have to do is visit my Etsy store . Etsy has a Shopping Cart (so you can pile it high with purchases from a variety of artists), is integrated with Paypal (although you may still pay by check if you prefer to), and is terribly simple to navigate. When the week has ended, I will have listed almost 100 of my favorite (UNSOLD!) paintings here, grouped loosely by subject matter. During 2009 I'll update the shop regularly, and add non-Dog-a-Day pieces as a bonus, thus making it easy to search for that perfect gift. Watch my daily postings for announcements, promotions and discount codes. If you do not receive the Dog-a-Day emails (
