Dragon on the Lake Festival


 
 
 

It was an incredible weekend to be in Lake Orion, as we celebrated the Dragon who lives in our lake with a huge community wide festival.

 
Over the course of the weekend, there was a lighted boat parade, an old-tyme waterski show, artist demonstrations, dragon boat races, a rock wall, BMX and skateboard ramps/props, vendors, GEOcaching, food, beverages and all sorts of other great times.

 
Including a sidewalk chalk art contest.

 
Which my very own Princess and her friend The Fairy Goddaughter participated in (that's their smurf-blue chalk-covered feet above). They spent a day and a half creating a fabulous piece featuring a dragon of their own creation under full moon. And earned Best of Show for their age division. Color me proud.

 
And do you remember my Lesson Painting Marley vs The Dragon?  (or even the search for my dragon hunting muse?) Well my painting of the fearless Marley was chosen as honorable mention in the Dragons, Myths and Legends Exhibition at the Orion Art Center.

 
There will definitly be more chalk art in our future. And additional Dragon Slayer paintings. 

 
But right now I'm going to enjoy this last week of summer vacation. Starting with a cold beer.

COMING UP ~~ PAINTING WORKSHOP "Mixing Color Not Mud": Saturday, October 8th, at the Orion Art Center in Lake Orion MICHIGAN. Email me to get on the early bird list.
 

Today's Agenda

 
Take The Caped Crusader to 8th grade orientation.

 
Run paperwork up to The Man Child at the high school so that he can complete his scheduling.

 
Shoot across town and take down an exhibition.

 
Head to storage unit for a quick inventory of artwork on hand. Rewrap and store all work carefully and purge items in storage unit.

 
Create list of art headed to exhibition at Seasonings Cafe and pack up.

 
Stop at bank.

 
Stop at post office and send paintings off to new homes.

 
Run dinner up to The Man Child at the high school (Marching Band practice runs until 8pm).

 
Get our dinner in the oven.

 
Race back to middle school for Football Parent Meeting, then run homebound football carpool.

 
Have dinner with the family (sans Man Child) before heading into the studio for a late nite painting session.

    Hope you had a good time at your event young one. Hopefully they'll be able to have one here sometime again. If it ever cools off that is.

This is Shadow, who went missing on Sunday night. He belongs to a friend of mine, and has been a fixture in our community for many years. Errant fireworks scared the silly old guy into running off, and his family is busy searching for him.
